SDSU students and faculty are calling for smaller class sizes, no new fees or fee increases, and an end to employee furloughs and layoffs.

Jung Min Choi, a sociology professor at San Diego State, said he hopes the public is taking notice.

“For so long, I think people have expected (students and faculty) to be passive," said Choi. "So when a rally like this happens, I think a lot of people are surprised both pleasantly and for other people, maybe not. But I think this is an important part of being educated."

The San Diego State demonstration comes one day after a march held at UC San Diego. University of California students are rallying against a possible 30 percent fee increase and more cuts to enrollment next fall. The UC Board of Regents is expected to vote on the proposals this week.
