CSU System to Accept Spring Admissions After All

The California State University system says it will now be able to admit up to 10,000 new students across its 23 campuses this spring thanks to the latest round of stimulus funds.

Until now, CSU officials had said any new admissions this spring were contingent on getting enough money from a state budget deal.

“It will allow us to open up a pipeline, admit some of the kids who have applied for admission into the spring semester and then to also service the current students we have by increasing courses, increasing student services at the campus level.” Said Mike Uhlenkamp with the chancellor’s office.

Still, the $100 million in one-time stimulus funds won’t be enough to admit everyone who applies -- some 41,000 people so far, as of earlier this week. CSU officials say the fate of the rest of the applicants lies with Governor Schwarzenegger and state lawmakers.

The spring application deadline is September 27.
