San Diego Opera's COO Keith Fisher sees a sunny horizon as he looks ahead to the company's 2014-15 season.
After nearly closing its doors, San Diego Opera sees an exciting new season that kicked off in September with a recital at the Balboa Theater with tenor Stephen Costello and soprano Ailyn Perez.
The company was excited about using the Balboa Theater as a new, more intimate space for presenting singers. San Diego Opera returned to the venue on Dec. 11 for “We’ll Meet Again: The Songs of Kate Smith," featuring opera star Stephanie Blythe and pianist Craig Terry.
Blythe made her San Diego Opera debut last season in "A Masked Ball" and sang in Verdi’s "Requiem." In this concert, she pays tribute to great American singer Kate Smith, whose voice inspired a nation with popular standards like "We’ll Meet Again," "When You Wish Upon a Star," and "God Bless America."
The San Diego Opera's 2014–2015 season celebrates the milestone of its 50th Anniversary. COO Keith Fisher said the company is "really excited and united" as it faces a new beginning that's full of promise.
The season features two beloved fan favorites: Puccini's "La Boheme" and Mozart's "Don Giovanni." Plus, a new contemporary opera never seen on our stage, John Adams' "Nixon in China." In addition there will be an entirely new Mariachi opera, and a 50th Anniversary Celebration Concert.
