For the first time in 55 year history dodger Stadium will host a game 7 of the World Series tonight. The LA Dodgers scored a 3-1 victory in game 6 last night. This series which would be a first World Series championship for the Astros in the first and 29 years for the Dodgers has been marked by surprises and some controversy. Joining me is Jay Paris who was at dodger Stadium last night. Welcome to the program.Thank you very much.I know there's a huge amount of excitement building for tonight's game but I want you to back up for a minute. Overall what is your opinion of this series. Has this been a good matchup between the Dodgers and Astros?It's been a classic and it's been a billboard for major league baseball moving forward. They wanted to have more excitement and have more offense in this game is not only set TV ratings but set the record for most home runs in a World Series. So there's a lot of action and movement on the basis and really baseball could not be more please. My only thing is not that many people can see it because the game starts so late.To follow up on what you said game 5 has been described as with 13 and 12 runs being scored. Is that unusual?It is because usually you get the best of the best and that means the best pitching. That's known the case. Whether that is part of baseball. Some people are speculating that baseballs are hard and traveling farther where the wood is better grade. It's really throwing baseball strategy on its head with all this offense because usually postseason game are about good pitching. Instead were getting scores we use to see back in the old days.This series has not been without controversy. Astros first baseman made a gesture pulling at the corners of his eyes. Apparently to mock Dodgers pitcher.It was uncalled for and it was in a very good taste. If you been a lot of that to run a lot of baseball, you will see that and you will have guys kidding each other that's usually teammate on teammate so another gentleman to make that face wasn't very cool. He has been suspended for five games but not until next season. He still allowed to play here. At that he stood behind the amount and he let the -- the ball would come back from the catcher and he would take some more time. So the Asian community headed out for him last night. He said I will let this guy get what he deserves.Here in San Diego there's arrival between the Padres and Dodgers. Still Padres fans may recognize some familiar faces in the series, isn't that right?That is true. Dave Roberts is a former pottery in player and former coach and it is directing the Dodgers in the hopes of getting that first world title. So it's such a strong rivalry that it's hard to pull for really Southern California team. If your popular guy in rooting for the Dodgers, you just don't do that. All through the teams that are left there's that pottery input. So the Padres aren't there. I think they're feeling that TV screens.You were at dodger Stadium went they got the victory in 1988. I think back how does that series compared to the excitement around this one?I think there's more excitement this time. Remember 1980 the Dodgers was in the World Series in 1977 and they were back in 81 and got the victory. There wasn't that new feeling that is going on now. It's a given that the Dodgers have a span there. They have not been back like spending loads of money. So they can be pretty sick over it. There's a lot of people there so the Dodgers are trying to reclaim the town at the end and the excitement is unbelievable. If you wanted to get on the secondary market tonight it's $800.What can we expect from the game tonight.Every page will be like the last page. Whenever he would do World Series he would hope for a hero -- star instead of -- then you see that homerun and not see a ball go to somebody's lake because no matter what happens tonight, it will never leave these people and they will take this game to their grave win or lose.I know you will be there tonight work I've been speaking with Jay Paris. The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Houston Astros 3-1 in Game 6 of the World Series, evening the best-of-seven series at three games each and guaranteeing a Game 7 on Wednesday at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers had trailed 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning when catcher Austin Barnes singled and Houston starter Justin Verlander hit L.A.'s second baseman Chase Utley. Center fielder Chris Taylor doubled to score Barnes. Shortstop Corey Seager's sacrifice fly scored Utley.
Until then Verlander appeared to be in control of the game, holding the Dodgers to just one hit in five innings.
The Dodgers added another run on a home run by left fielder Joc Pederson in the bottom of the seventh inning.
For Houston, Game 6 was about their failure to capitalize on opportunities to get on the board. They scored their only run when Astros center fielder George Springer hit a home run off of Dodgers starter Rich Hill in the top of the third inning.
The Astros threatened to score in their half of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, but each time they came up with nothing.
In the top of the fifth inning, they had runners at second and third base with no outs after a single by catcher Brian McCann and a double by left fielder Marwin Gonzalez. Two outs later, and with an intentional walk to Springer loading the bases, third baseman Alex Bregman grounded out to short.
In their half of the sixth, the Astros got two runners on a two-out single by first baseman Yuli Gurriel. Then McCann was hit by a pitch from Dodgers reliever Brandon Morrow. But again, Houston failed to score.
Houston put two more runners on base in the seventh inning on a walk by right fielder Josh Reddick and an infield single by Springer. But the Astros couldn't get a timely hit after that, leaving a total of eight runners on base.
Each of those scoring threats were stymied by the Dodgers relievers who combined for 4 1/3 scoreless innings after starter Rich Hill went 4 2/3 innings. Reliever Tony Watson was the game winner and Houston's Verlander took the loss, his first since being traded to the Astros in late August.
The Dodgers colorful right fielder, Yasiel Puig, had guaranteed that the Dodgers would win Game 6 and force a winner-take-all Game 7.
The starting pitchers for Game 7 Wednesday night are Yu Darvish for the Dodgers and Lance McCullers for the Astros. Darvish pitched poorly in Game 3, lasting only 1 2/3 innings. McCullers was the victor as Houston won that game 5-3.
