Iran and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), which has been very active in social media, is giving Americans an easy but meaningful way to support veterans this week with a groundbreaking new Facebook application allowing users everywhere to donate their Facebook or Twitter statuses.
The IAVA app, developed by interactive agency Invoke Media, raises awareness of Veterans Day and allows every American to show new veterans their support. Once you 'like' IAVA's Facebook page, you gain access to the app, which shows a leaderboard of the number of donated Twitter or Facebook statuses by state. The state with the most donated statuses will be able to give two veterans from that state tickets to the Super Bowl. Supporters can sign up to donate their status and "march" with IAVA online by clicking here.
Mashable's Brenna Ehrlich writes:
Meanwhile, offline, Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and supporters will come together tomorrow to honor the service of veterans from all generations in a variety of ways. There are parades or runs in New York, Arizona, Texas, Washington State, Washington DC and of course the San Diego Veterans Day Parade, one of the nation's biggest and best. Additionally, IAVA member veterans will take part in the pre-game Baltimore Ravens vs. Atlanta Falcons flag ceremony on Veterans Day in Atlanta.
