House Today Passes Enhanced GI Bill To Help Veterans

The House today passed the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Improvements Act to strengthen the New GI Bill. Supporters say this package makes it easier for veterans to take advantage of New GI Bill benefits, helps veterans successfully enter the civilian workforce, extends educational benefits to members of the National Guard and veterans who use distance education and simplifies the Yellow Ribbon Program for veterans enrolling at private schools.

The bill, which the Senate passed earlier this week, was passed today by the House by a vote of 409 to 3 and now goes to President Obama for his signature into law. For more information on upgrades to the Post-9/11 GI Bill, visit www.NewGIBill.org. On Tuesday, December 21st at 11:00 a.m. PST, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) will also host a "New GI Bill Winter Forum" to discuss the upgrades inside Community of Veterans, the first online network exclusively for veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. Registrationis free.
