A Camp Pendleton Marine who was killed last week in Afghanistan will be laid to rest Thursday at Arlington National Cemetery. Staff Sgt. Nicholas A. Sprovtsoff was a bomb technician who died September 28 in Helmand Province. He was assigned to the 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command at Camp Pendleton, according to the Associated Press.
The 28-year-old Sprovtsoff was on his fifth deployment and his third in Afghanistan when he was killed. His widow, Tasha, spoke with the North County Times about her late husband. The couple has a 14-month-old daughter named Lanie, and Tasha is due this month with their second child. Tasha says despite her husband's dangerous mission as a bomb technician, the couple savored their time together:
Sprovtsoff grew up in Davison, Michigan. The close-knit town is mourning the loss of its native son, as Michigan television station NBC25 reports: http://youtu.be/yppakXt4CEw
