Who knew there was such thing as a $10,000 bottle of wine? There is (it's the 1870 Chateau Lafite Rothschild) and the 140-year-old bottle of vino was the subject of a bet between Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, and restaurateur Ted Balestreri.
The Monterey Herald reports the two men were part of a dinner party last New Year's Eve, when the subject of the 1870 Chateau Lafite Rothschild came up. Balestreri said he would only open the high-priced bottle in his wine cellar if Panetta, then CIA director, captured Osama bin Laden:
Cut to five months later, when Belestreri said he received a call from the wife of now Defense Secretary Panetta:
Belestreri says he will open the 1870 Chateau Lafite Rothschild on New Year's Eve and serve it to a small party of about 30 people. Including the Panettas, of course.
