Navy SEAL From California Killed In Afghanistan

Petty Officer 1st Class Kevin R. Ebbert was killed in Afghanistan on November 24, according to the Department of Defense.

The 32-year-old Navy SEAL was assigned to an East Coast-based Naval Special Warfare unit in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Ebbert grew up in Arcata, California - a small town in Humboldt County.

Commander of Naval Special Warfare Group 2, Capt. Robert Smith, said in a statement about Ebbert's death:

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of our teammate who has made the ultimate sacrifice."
