An English Bulldog puppy named Pfc. Chesty XIV, the Marine Corps' mascot-in-training, was made a full Marine this week.
Marine Corps commandant Gen. James Amos presented Pfc. Chesty XIV with his eagle, globe and anchor emblems during a ceremony at Marine Barracks Washington, D.C. on Monday.
Chesty XIV has completed his recruit training and basic indoctrination into the Corps. He still has a bit more obedience training to complete, and will continue to serve alongside predecessor Sgt. Chesty XIII until his "mentor" retires in August.
Marine mascots are named in honor of Lieutenant General Lewis "Chesty" Burwell Puller, one of the most decorated Marines in the Corps' history, according to Puller's official biography.
