A 19-year-old soldier from San Diego County died May 17 at King Hussein Hospital in Amman, Jordan, from what the Defense Department is calling a "non-combat related" injury.
Army Spec. Adrian M. Perkins grew up in Pine Valley, which is an unincorporated community located in the Mountain Empire region of southeastern San Diego County.
According to his Facebook page, Perkins graduated from Mountain Empire High School in 2012.
He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado.
A spokeswoman for Fort Carson told TheDenverChannel.com that Perkins received his fatal injury when he "was shot at a Jordanian military base on May 17"...
"We're still trying to determine the details of the incident but can confirm there were no Jordanians involved."
