An 18-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl were injured early today when one of two young men — believed to be Marines — pushed them off an oceanfront bluff over South Carlsbad State Beach during an argument, police said.
The group was loitering alongside the cliff at the foot of Cerezo Drive when they got into a quarrel for unknown reasons shortly before 1 a.m, Carlsbad police spokeswoman Jodee Sasway said.
As the disagreement escalated, one of the men — both of whom are believed to be active-duty Marines — shoved the teens, sending them tumbling 10 to 15 feet down the precipice.
Medics evaluated the victims at the scene, then took the younger one to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla for treatment of injuries of undisclosed severity. The 18-year-old told emergency crews she did not need to go to the trauma center.
Police contacted Camp Pendleton for assistance in locating the two men. Investigators "have an idea who they are," Sasway said.
