Several media outlets are calling MCAS Miramar-based Marine Corps Cpl. Jordan L. Spears, 21, the first casualty of the U.S. military's campaign against ISIS (also called ISIL and the Islamic State). Army Sgt. 1st Class Andrew T. Weathers, 30, died Sept. 30 at a U.S. military hospital in Germany from a gunshot wound suffered during combat in Afghanistan on Sept. 28. Weathers was a Green Beret and Special Forces medical sergeant.
