San Diego Mayor Faulconer Calls Threats To JCC 'Cowardly'
San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer tweeted Tuesday the city will not tolerate "cowardly threats" made to Jewish community centers.
We won't tolerate these cowardly threats against our Jewish community. SDPD is working to bring these criminals to justice. We stand as one.— Kevin Faulconer (@Kevin_Faulconer) February 28, 2017
The latest of these bomb threats forced the evacuation of the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center in La Jolla Monday evening amid a rash of similar crimes across the country.
Administrators at the center cleared everyone offsite while officers searched it. The evacuees were invited to wait at nearby La Jolla Country Day School until the facility could be declared safe.
The threat was one of several received recently at the Lawrence Family JCC and was among nearly two dozen similar ones received the same day at Jewish centers in 12 states, according to JCC Association of North America.
