Last week, the Solana Beach City Council was down to three members; by next week they plan to have a full council of five. The council has opted to fill the two empty seats instead of holding special elections.

Lesa Heebner was appointed on April 11 to fill the vacancy left by former Councilman Mike Nichols. Nichols' resignation was official March 12. Solana Beach is currently accepting applications to fill former Mayor Ginger Marshall's seat. Marshall abruptly resigned on April 5.

Solana Beach City Clerk Angela Ivey said Monday that only one application had been received to fill Marshall's position. Applications are due this Thursday, and the council plans to appoint a fifth council member at it's April 25 meeting.

To apply, candidates must live in Solana Beach. A council position in the city pays a $712 monthly salary.

The appointees will serve through the end of the year. The two council positions will be on this November’s ballot.
