A fire near Camp Pendleton known as the Pulgas Fire has grown overnight to 8,000 acres and is 5 percent contained, according to the Camp Pendleton Scout Facebook page.
According to the post, evacuation orders for Camp Las Pulgas, Camp Margarita, Camp Las Flores and 32 Area remain in effect.
The fire started about 3:15 p.m. east of Interstate 5 near a sewage plant and prompted the evacuation of personnel to the School of Infantry parade deck behind the mess hall, officials said. It grew to 4,000 acres by 10 p.m. and led to more evacuations, base officials said.
The Camp Pendleton Scout Facebook page reported that facilities in what the Marines call the "43 Area" were evacuated, including a store, gas station, restaurant, recreating center, barber shop and laundromat.
By late evening, personnel in the Las Flores area of the base were also asked to evacuate to the parade deck.
For updates on the fire, the base urged people to go to the Camp Pendleton Scout Facebook page.
