Authorities announced a reward of up to $2,000 Friday for information leading to the arrest of the vandal or vandals responsible for at least 15 arson fires that have plagued City Heights-area neighborhoods in recent weeks.

The monetary incentive for tips about the spree of malicious fires — which have charred trash piles, flatbed trailers, discarded mattresses, commercial garbage bins and beds of pickup trucks — is a joint offering of San Diego County Crime Stoppers and Councilwoman Marti Emerald's office.

"All San Diegans should feel safe in their communities," Emerald said. "That is why I am committed to finding (whoever is) responsible for these fires."
