A fire that blackened about 1,300 open acres on Camp Pendleton was 70 percent contained, military officials said Friday.
The so-called Horno Fire broke out for unknown reasons near intersection of Horno Canyon and Basilone roads around 1 p.m. Thursday. The fast-moving fire grew to char about 600 acres at the North County military installation by about 2:30 p.m., according to CalFire, which was assisting Camp Pendleton firefighters.
No structures were threatened, authorities said.
According to the most recent update from fire officials, the blaze was holding at 1,300 acres and was about 70 percent contained.
