A passenger train struck and killed a man at a Midtown-area rail crossing late Monday morning.

The pedestrian was standing on the tracks when the southbound Coaster hit him at Pacific Highway and West Washington Street about 10:45 a.m., according to sheriff's officials.

According to witnesses, the man did not respond when the train operator sounded his horn, Deputy Anthony Radicia said.
