The most anticipated installment of San Diego Filipino Cinema’s year-long programming, the San Diego Filipino Film Festival (SDFFF) is back on its third year this fall from October 3-8, 2023. Held during Filipino American History Month in October, SDFFF is SDFC's centerpiece event that aims to raise awareness for Filipino cinema as an important art form and a powerful tool for representation, education, and entertainment. SDFFF will bring San Diego communities together to celebrate diversity, culture, and heritage through cinema with a diverse mix of narrative features, documentaries, and short films. About the Film | Inspired by the pre-colonial Filipino value kapwa, or “shared identity”, "Searching for Kapwa" follows the filmmakers quest to understand his ancestral roots, heal from a sense of cultural alienation, and find his place in the arc of history. As a child of immigrants and a queer brown person living in polarized America, Larry’s journey unpacks the complicated history of the Philippines, and its lasting impact on the Filipino diaspora. Ultimately, the film is a densely layered exploration of what it is to be American, and the legacy of the generations we all carry within us.

San Diego nonprofits come together to fundraise in unity, with countywide day-of-giving. This year, 338 organizations have signed on to participate in the fundraising campaign. Only in its third year, the campaign has almost tripled its nonprofit participants; 120 organizations participated in the program’s inaugural year. San Diegans can begin giving Thursday, August 17, when early giving opens, through the end of Thursday, September 7, to their favorite charities, which can be filtered by categories, including Animals, Education, Environment, Military and Humanitarian Aid, and more. Donors can choose to give to one or more nonprofits through the San Diego Gives platform. It is straightforward to learn about new organizations and their work. There are a diverse range of cause areas, including the arts, animal welfare, the environment, education, health, human services, equity, social justice, and more. The San Diego Angel Conference (SDAC) in partnership with The Brink SBDC offers the Entrepreneurs Track (E-Track), a free 4-month workshop series for entrepreneurs to develop, explore, and refine the fundamentals required to prepare for angel investment. Join us for our Kick-Off event and a Mixer hosted by the San Diego Entrepreneurs Exchange (SDEE) on Sept 12 at the University of San Diego (USD). Each week, founders gather, network, and explore topics critical to successfully raising money from angel investors. The Entrepreneurs Track culminates with the application deadline on Dec. 19, 2023. Those who apply will compete for a $200,000* investment from ~60 SEC accredited investors. *Amount of investment depends on the number of units purchased by investors. During this session we will cover the important dates and details of SDAC VI, answer questions, and cover two important topics: 1) Positioning and Value Proposition, and 2) Use of Funds/Ask (the last slide in an investment deck). Attendees will complete a positioning statement focused on the value proposition, and identify the potential risks and resources required to mitigate risks and position your company for success.

Join lawyers and actors as Shylock goes to court against Portia. Our premise is that after the events depicted in The Merchant of Venice, Shylock discovers that Doctor of Laws “Balthazar” was really Portia in disguise, so neither a man nor a lawyer. In a civil lawsuit, he sues her for tortious interference with contract. The Duke of Venice, regretting the outcome of the earlier case as it damaged the city’s reputation for fairness (and thus its commercial prospects), allows Shylock’s lawsuit against Portia to proceed.
