Gator By The Bay, the largest, most-authentic Louisiana-themed music and food festival this side of the bayou is held each year around Mothers’ Day weekend, the 2nd weekend in May. Presented by San Diego’s Bon Temps Social Club, this "Mardi Gras in May" features four days of live music with over 100 musical acts and special performances on seven stages, southern cuisine including 10,000 pounds of crawfish trucked from Louisiana, non-stop live music, dancing and family fun at Spanish Landing Park on beautiful San Diego Bay across from the airport.

Noble Learning in Normal Heights will host a reception on Thursday, May 12 from 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at 3333 Adams Ave. for the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run (peacerun.org). Guests will be invited to hold the Peace Torch and offer their own wish for a more harmonious world community. An exhibition of Peace Run photos from around the world will be on display. The international team of runners on the Peace Run will arrive in San Diego May 8 for a week of events including school assemblies and tree plantings. Founded by peace ambassador Sri Chinmoy in 1987, the Peace Run is a non-political, non-profit event and is the world’s largest torch relay. More than 7-million people have participated by running or holding the Peace Torch including Pope Francis, President Nelson Mandela, Queen Elizabeth II, Saint Mother Teresa, Muhammad Ali, state governors, city mayors and celebrities around the world. The Noble Learning shop and gallery is located in the Normal Heights neighborhood of San Diego. Jyoti-Bihanga Vegetarian Restaurant, a co-sponsor of the event, will provide appetizers. There is no fee for this event. All ages are welcome.

San Diego American Indian Health Center’s Pow Wow is a celebration and showcase of Native American culture and traditions. Native singers, drummers, and dancers in their beautiful regalia from throughout the Southwest will gather in Balboa Park to practice their traditions and you’re invited to come and celebrate with us. Pow Wow’s are a spiritual experience for American Indians and an opportunity to preserve and pass on the customs and traditions which keep our Native heritage alive. Each day, the Pow Wow will showcase traditional activities such as Kumeyaay Bird Singing, Gourd Dancing, Inter-Tribal Dancing, and Honoring of community leaders. We will also be honoring figures from the Native community who have dedicated their lives to service.
