  • What is this…"Artist’s Way"? Maybe you had a friend who read through it years ago and made some significant breakthroughs. Or you’ve had the book on your bookshelf and promised yourself–this is the year I open it!–every year? Or you took a class long ago…but don’t remember much. Wherever you are at, this is for ANYONE who wants to live a more creative, intentional life. "The Artist’s Way" is for novices and working artists of all types, including writers, visual artists, actors, dancers, musicians…ANYONE who recognizes their innate creativity. In a supportive and safe setting, we will: - Acquaint ourselves with the basics and tools of "The Artist’s Way" (by Julia Cameron) - Work on activities meant to break through some of our creative blocks and give us better insight into creative work we might consider pursuing - And more! Week 1 will be an intro to the program. The next six weeks will be devoted to the chapters (and creative practices), and the last week is a final creative presentation by each student. If you’re able, bring a copy of "The Artist’s Way" (many available at the local libraries) and a journal or sketchbook. No previous arts experience required.   • The San Diego River Artists Alliance (SDRAA) exhibits work celebrating the San Diego River and its ecosystem. The opening reception is Saturday, May 9, 4 - 7 p.m. which coincides with San Diego River Park Foundation’s “River Days 2026”. Come see the art stories then make stories of your own by connecting with the river through experiences offered by SDRPF during River Days 2026, May 9 - May 17 (https://sdriverdays.org/). The San Diego River Artists Alliance (SDRAA) is a collective of twenty-two visual and 3D artists who invest time and collect experiences along the San Diego River from the mountains near Santa Ysabel to the ocean. The artists retell the grand and intimate stories of animals, plants, land and water in their artwork, celebrating the river’s history, beauty and promise. A portion of the sales will be donated to the San Diego River Park Foundation (SDRPF).
  • Join artist Aaron Kramer for a hands-on workshop exploring the playful mechanics of automata. These are simple machines that use movement to bring small sculptures to life. Inspired by the Aaron Kramer: Sense of Wonder exhibition, participants will learn how he transforms salvaged materials, mechanical parts, and curiosity into imaginative kinetic creations. In this workshop, Kramer will guide you step by step in designing and building your own small automata machine using metal components and hand tools. As you bend, shape, and assemble the parts, you’ll discover how simple mechanical systems can create surprising movement and storytelling. All materials are included in the workshop fee. This workshop is best suited for teens and adults, as it requires some dexterity and strength to use the metal-bending tools. Kramer will provide guidance and assistance throughout the process to ensure everyone can successfully complete their piece.
