Around 300,000 years ago, Homo sapiens emerged in Africa, one of at least seven human species alive at the time. Now, fossil evidence, DNA sequencing, and other tools are shedding new light on the surprising journey that made us who we are today.

The self-titled album features drummer Matt Chamberlain (David Bowie, Perfume Genius, Fiona Apple). The Album and “How Do I” were nominated for Best Recording and Best Pop Song at San Diego Music Awards 2021 & 2022, respectively. “Southern Winds” earned Best Music Video at Dublin Web Fest. She began her songwriting days in San Diego during college, with three previous albums recorded and produced by Aaron Bowen. She has a large body of work and subcribers on her YouTube Channel, Luieland (29K subs), and continues to explore soundscapes with a cult following. Most recent contributions: featured vocal as Opera Evelyn on the soundtrack of "Everything Everywhere All At Once." She was co-music director and originating cast member of "Cambodian Rock Band" by Lauren Yee, (National Tour, Off-Broadway Signature Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, OSF). She was composer for "All’s Well That Ends Well" (OSF 2019) and "Secret In The Wings "(Coeurage Theatre). Surrija has worked with Son Lux, Matt Chamberlain, Tom Brosseau, Felicia Day, Kate Earl, Kina Grannis. Today, she is based in San Diego, California, where she collaborates with elite musicians and performs at prestigious venues, including Seaworld, The Rady Shell, Disneyland, The Belly Up, and top-tier casinos, wineries, and festivals across the state. Jonesy’s performances are unforgettable, often featuring her signature hoverboard and trombone routine—a true testament to her creativity and showmanship. Her mission to spread the “Live in Peace” (L.I.P.) message through music is the driving force behind her career. A new cultural tradition is coming to East County! On Saturday, June 7, 2025, Downtown El Cajon will debut Artivál, East San Diego County’s first-ever arts festival. The free, open-air celebration brings together local creatives, musicians, food and drink vendors, and the community to highlight the city’s cultural identity. Held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the heart of Downtown El Cajon at Main & Magnolia, the free festival kicks off the summer season with a vibrant showcase of more than 50 artists and makers, interactive installations, live music, and gourmet food trucks. For those 21 and up, East County Arts Association has curated a ticketed Wine & Beer Garden experience that adds an elevated experience with tastings from local wineries, craft brew, and beverage brands. Artivál’s mission is clear – to transform Downtown El Cajon’s public spaces into a living canvas, spark cultural dialogue, and create lasting access to the arts in a part of San Diego that’s long been underserved by creative programming. Featuring a dynamic lineup of visual and performing artists, from rising talents to veteran creatives, Artivál celebrates the full spectrum of local artistry across disciplines and cultures. EC Gallery will share a compelling selection of artworks from The Art of Dr. Seuss Collection in the Gaslamp at 621 5th Avenue, San Diego on May 10 through June 13 for FREE. Visitors may explore and acquire works from Dr. Seuss’s best-known children’s books, as well as The Secret Art of Dr. Seuss, a mind-expanding collection based on decades of artwork, which Dr. Seuss created at night for his own personal pleasure. Perhaps the wackiest and most wonderful elements of the collection are Dr. Seuss’s three-dimensional “Unorthodox Taxidermy” sculptures with names such as Carbonic Walrus, Two-Horned Drouberhannis, and Goo-Goo-Eyed Tasmanian Wolghast, to name a few. For over 60 years, Dr. Seuss’s illustrations have brought a visual realization to his fantastic and imaginary worlds. His artistic talent went far beyond the printed page and yet, to this day, his Secret Art Collection is virtually unknown to the general public. Throughout his lifetime, Theodor Seuss Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss) created paintings and sculpture, which he secreted away at the Dr. Seuss Estate in La Jolla, CA. Each of these Estate-Authorized limited editions has been adapted and reproduced from Theodor Seuss Geisel’s original drawings, paintings, or sculptures. Additionally, each work bears a posthumously printed or engraved Dr. Seuss signature, identifying the work as an authorized limited edition commissioned by the Dr. Seuss Estate. Gina Diamante came to KPBS in 2011 to launch KPBS Evening Edition. She has managed the newsroom’s participation in collaborative efforts with other public media outlets, including the Local Journalism Center Video Project and the Global Nation Education Project. In 2015, Gina was awarded an Emmy by the Pacific Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for producing the KPBS news special “Remembering The Fall Of Saigon.” Her work has also been recognized by the San Diego Press Club, the San Diego League of Women Voters, San Diego Radio Broadcasters Association, and the Associated Press Radio-Television Association. Prior to joining KPBS, Gina served as news director and Morning Edition host at KVCR-FM, the NPR member station in San Bernardino. Gina has also been a writer, reporter, anchor, producer and news director at stations in Monterey, San Diego, Ventura County, Los Angeles, and Temecula. She is a graduate of the School of Journalism at San Jose State University.

She was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as a Republican from Montana in 1916 for one term, then was elected again in 1940. Rankin remains the only woman ever elected to Congress from Montana. Come early to park and get a good seat. LIFE 30th year!
