  • After a long hiatus, we are thrilled to announce the continuation of our signature Field Trip program! Join us on June 18 for a North County exploration of Niki de Saint Phalle’s fantastical public sculptures led by Senior Curator Jill Dawsey. Niki de Saint Phalle in the 1960s is the first exhibition to survey the experimental work of French American artist Niki de Saint Phalle, which is currently on view at MCASD’s Flagship location in La Jolla. The day will include a stop at Saint Phalle’s only sculpture park in the U.S., Queen Califia’s Magical Circle, and a specially curated picnic lunch. Schedule: 9 a.m.- Tour of MCASD's special exhibition, Niki de Saint Phalle in the 1960s led by Senior Curator Jill Dawsey. 11 a.m.- Tour of the City of Escondido's Queen Califa's Magical Circle led by Martha Tiedeman 12 p.m.- Lunch 1:30 p.m.- Tour of UCSD Stuart Collection's Sun God led by Jane Zwerneman, Assistant Director, Stuart Collection. 3 p.m.- Drop off at MCASD

As we head into a changed world, post-pandemic and with social and political shifts, these are expressions of hope during transition, of ways to move forward, of the force of the spirit and the resilience of nature. The works are in a range of media: from textiles to painting, ceramic and bronze sculpture to mixed media, and in many styles, from abstract to whimsical to realism. The group has been working and showing together for 6 years, and were recently featured at the Oceanside Museum of Art in an exhibition titled “Now.” Member artists also show individually, in galleries and museums on both coasts, and their work is held in corporate and private collections worldwide. We’ll be closing off the entire block in front of Bancroft Elementary School from Central Avenue to Avocado Street for a family friendly, street fair style event. The school’s large dirt lot will be used for free event parking. There will be live entertainment, a FREE fun zone, “Cars & Community” car show, first responder displays from San Miguel Fire & Rescue and San Diego County Sheriff, many County agencies from Animal Services to Vector Control, and many vendors selling food, crafts, merchandise, or promoting their business/organization.
