  • Hello, my name is Elene Bratton. I am Jamie’s mom, and founder of Jamie’s Joy. We lost Jamie very suddenly, in a car crash when he was one month shy of his 6th birthday. During our healing process, our family felt a strong pull to continue Jamie’s spirit through supporting the children of San Diego, so we started a non-profit called Jamie’s Joy which does that and more. We are a non-profit fiscally sponsored by SD Foundation 95-2942582. We hope you can see the value of supporting this all-volunteer organization dedicated to preserving he life of Jamie, whose legacy of love, joy, peace, and connection has guided us to raise money each year for the children of San Diego County. Since its inspection in 2003 we have raised nearly $90,000 to help San Diego kids, youth and families thrive. We’ve been able to promote grief literacy helping numerous families find healthy avenues to grieve through honoring and remembering their loved ones. We’ve spoken out about distracted driving and promoted awareness of traffic safety, going around the world from Cuba to China, Kenya to India to help children everywhere have the opportunity for a better life. This year, to mark Jamie’s 30th birthday anniversary, we are partnering with several organizations that carry forward his spirit of giving and service to the community. This year’s event will take place Saturday, June 6, 2026, and benefit the following recipients, San Diego Cheer & Dance, City Heights Music School, Artful Mind, Sunshine Baseball The event will feature: Live music and interactive drumming with Drummers Without Borders Spoken word poetry by Kalil Price Youth demonstrations and inspirational testimony Face painting arts and crafts, and family activities Silent auction and community resources Food, entertainment, and healing-centered activities. • Artist Panel and Reception: Saturday, February 28, 4 - 7 p.m. Panel starts at 4:30 p.m. Art Gallery - FA 103 Free Parking Lot 1 Staff Spots On view Feb. 9 - March 5. This powerful intergenerational exhibition of Chicana portraiture brings together artists from Los Angeles and San Diego to explore identity, memory, activism, and healing through the human figure. Blending contemporary realities with ancestral memory, these figurative works honor matriarchal lineages, personal narratives, and an enduring commitment to social justice. Originally curated Sybil Venegas for Avenue 50 Studio in Los Angeles, this exhibition includes artists from different generations—Baby Boomers, Gen X and Millennials. The expanded presentation in San Diego includes local artists Marianela de la Hoz, Katie Ruiz, and Ale Ruiz Tostado, presenting their work alongside their Angeleno counterparts. Intrinsically connected to Mexico and the border, cultural influences are evident in these artists’ paintings, which align with the legacy of Chicano art while also paying tribute to long-standing Latin American traditions of magical realism and folk art. • British acoustic guitarist Clive Carroll is one of the world's premier fingerstyle players, praised by Total Guitar Magazine as one of the most accomplished fingerstylists performing today. Raised on Irish, American country, and old-time music, Carroll's musical curiosity led him through soul, pop, funk, and classical guitar — studying the etudes of Tárrega alongside the riffs of Slayer and Nirvana. He went on to earn a First Class Honours Degree in Composition and Guitar from Trinity College of Music in London. A pivotal meeting with English guitar legend John Renbourn launched Carroll's international career, with Renbourn calling his debut album "Sixth Sense" a milestone for the steel-string guitar. Carroll has since toured extensively across five continents and collaborated with Tommy Emmanuel, John Williams, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Xuefei Yang, and Ralph Towner, among others. He appears on Emmanuel's album "Accomplice One" alongside Mark Knopfler and Rodney Crowell. Carroll has released four solo albums and composed music for television and film. His 2023 double album "The Abbot: Clive Carroll Plays the Music of John Renbourn" features 21 guest musicians and a medieval ensemble, and was described by Now Spinning Magazine as a rich, immersive experience.
