  • Grand opera is coming to the California Center for the Arts in Escondido in July! Giacomo Puccini’s one-act masterpiece "Il Tabarro", Italian for "The Cloak", is a dramatic story of love, jealousy, and betrayal. Set aboard a river barge in Paris at the turn of the century, the soul-stirring melodies will transport you to a foggy night of deception and death. "Il Tabarro" is the least-performed of the three operas in Puccini’s triple-bill Il Trittico (The Triptych). While companies frequently mount double bills of Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi, they usually overlook "Il Tabarro", the first opera Puccini composed in the trio. In just one hour, you’ll be spellbound by the beauty and power of this music, whether you’re a devoted opera fan or a first-timer. That’s just half of the program, though. After the intermission, you’ll see the same story told in a completely different way: through neoclassical ballet. Featuring original choreography, this brand new adaptation of "Il Tabarro" reverses the narrative as the characters are now silent, speaking only through mesmerizingly expressive movements. This time, you’ll hear the same amazing orchestrations but without any vocal parts. Cinballera’s founders, dramatic coloratura soprano Tiffany Brannan and prima ballerina Rebekah Brannan, will be trading off as the leading lady in the opera and ballet, leading a talented cast of international performers and local professionals. "Il Tabarro" is presented in collaboration with the Temecula Valley Symphony, with Maestro John Mario Di Costanzo conducting. This production is Cinballera’s Season 4 opener, marking the 3-year anniversary of the company’s first performance in July 2023! • "Echoes of the Vast" - Paintings by Meghan Berkeley Augustine Presented by Earth / House / Hold Saturday, June 20, 2026 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Earth / House / Hold 340 16th Street, Studio 26 San Diego, CA 92101 Instagram: @earth_house_hold Email: earthhousehold.studio@gmail.com A small afternoon gathering centered around painting, atmosphere, land, and sustained looking. Preparing the studio for "Echoes of the Vast" — the first installation and soft launch of Earth / House / Hold. Beginning with my own paintings is a way of establishing the space’s curatorial language and presence before future exhibitions and invited artists. Earth / House / Hold is an artist-run curatorial platform devoted to the slow encounter between work, material, land, time, and the wild conditions that shape perception and place. My work explores how landscapes absorb time, memory, and traces of passage through layered material processes that respond to shifting conditions, rather than depicting something fixed. Growing up between Southern California and Arizona, I remain drawn to vast arid landscapes where erosion, accumulation, atmosphere, light, and surface carry history forward. I studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York, NY with Alice Aycock and Shirley Irons, and later received an MFA from The Claremont Colleges - Claremont Graduate University and an MA in Arts Management from the Peter F. Drucker School of Management in Claremont, California. My work is held in public and private collections across the United States. • In 2001, filmmaker Aljafari, briefly imprisoned in his teens by the Israeli Occupation during the first Palestinian Intifada of 1989, set out on a north-to-south tour of Gaza in search of a man he’d met while behind bars, bringing along a local guide, Hasan, and a MiniDV camera with which to document his journey. Some two decades later, Aljafari revisited the footage he’d captured, and from it sprang this plaintive, lyrical travelogue, a loving record of cities, neighborhoods, and gathering places since reduced to rubble, of people whose current fates are unknown. Not a work of “nostalgia” for bygone times—incoming ordinance was a reality a quarter century ago, and the subjects of "With Hasan in Gaza" all seem to have their stories of savage raids and worse—but a work that brims with its maker’s affection for all that he sees and shows. • Based on a true story, the performer everyone wanted to see “live” in 1940s New York was Florence Foster Jenkins, an enthusiastic soprano whose pitch was far from perfect. Known as “the first lady of the sliding scale,” she warbled and screeched her way through the evening to an audience who mostly fell about with laughter. But this delusional and joyously happy woman paid little attention to her critics. Instead, she was surrounded by a circle of devoted friends who were almost as eccentric as she was. This hilarious comedy is appropriate for all ages and, although is not classified as a musical, it contains both music and dance. Visit: https://www.powpac.org/?utm_source=Vesta&utm_medium=Referral
