Everyone in the community is invited to attend Wings of Hope, hosted by The Elizabeth Hospice, on Sunday, April 27, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. This event will take place at the California Center for the Arts, located at 340 N. Escondido Blvd in Escondido. Attendees will have the opportunity to honor and celebrate the special people who have touched their lives. Admission is free. Attendees will receive a butterfly for release, listen to live music, hear uplifting messages from The Elizabeth Hospice’s grief support team, and enjoy sweet treats. The Elizabeth Hospice, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit healthcare leader, has been providing hospice care, palliative care and grief support services to children and adults in San Diego County and Southwest Riverside County since 1978. The organization’s highly trained grief counselors help children and adults understand their feelings and thoughts and guide them through the process of coping with the death of a loved one. Grief support services are available to everyone in the community, including those who do not have a patient affiliation with The Elizabeth Hospice. No one needing these services has ever been turned away for financial reasons. In support of the organization’s nonprofit mission, a donation of $50 is suggested to reserve a Painted Lady Butterfly. Beyond Land Acknowledgments Workshop Tuesday, Nov. 19 | 1-3 p.m. | Intertribal Resource Center (SSC 187) Beyond Land Acknowledgements, led by ITRC Coordinator Michaela Allen Sanchez (Lipan Apache and Mexican-American), is an engaging and introspective workshop aimed at moving beyond traditional land acknowledgments towards fostering genuine support and allyship for Native students and communities at UC San Diego and beyond. In this session, participants will delve into critical discussions about their positionalities and explore departmental protocols to identify opportunities for growth and advocacy. Through interactive activities and guided reflections, participants will develop a deeper understanding of creating tangible forms of support. By the end of the workshop, attendees will walk away equipped with actionable items to enact positive change for the betterment of Native communities within their spheres of influence. The Intertribal Resource Center is located on the 1st floor of the Student Services Center in SSC Room #187. We are located at the corner of Rupertus Way and Myers Drive, south of Price Center East. Every November, UC San Diego recognizes and celebrates the achievements, cultures, and contributions of Native American people and tribes during Native American Heritage Month. The UC San Diego community greatly respects the land and the Kumeyaay people of the area where our campus is located. We acknowledge their tremendous contributions to our region and thank them for their stewardship.

California mobile driver's license (mDLs) are now being accepted at the San Diego International Airport. California is one of the 15 states that offer mDLs to their residents.

The San Diego Animal Sanctuary & Farm, a 20-acre farm in Alpine, is hosting its 12th annual fundraising gala at the Bahia Resort Hotel with “Back to the 80s” as the theme. The evening event is crucial to support the animal sanctuary’s on-going operations and allows the farm to continue caring for more than 200 rescued animals. Attendees are encouraged to “Dress to Impress in Your 80s Best!” The Farm will host Lindsey Peña of ABC 10News as the evening’s emcee. Beginning at 6 p.m., the event will kick off with a cocktail reception, followed by a three-course gourmet dinner with wine, and dancing. Guests will also be able to participate in live and silent auctions. All money raised throughout the evening will support the Foundation’s mission, expanding their resources and farming operations. The nonprofit’s regular monthly operating budget climbed to close to $60,000.00 in the last year; the bulk of the expenses being wages, feed, and veterinary costs. Due to these drastic challenges, the Farm recently had to lay off three team members and hopes that donations, visits, and the annual fundraiser gala will help save this unique and magical place. The evening will provide a much-needed influx in cash flow and allow the farm to continue major repairs, medical emergencies and raise funds to finance Title 1 schools’ field trips to the farm. With the current financial crisis, the farm is no longer in the position of accepting new animals in need of a home, but the demand is high. To help with increasing feed cost and to increase revenues, the farm invested in its agricultural operations, which now produces food for its tortoises, pigs, and the San Diego community.
