The Poway Symphony Orchestra will present "Mendelssohn Classics" on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at 4 p.m. at the Poway Center for Performing Arts. Under the baton of Conductor John LoPiccolo, this program features two masterpieces by Felix Mendelssohn that are elegant, expressive and brimming with Romantic spirit. The concert opens with the dramatic Symphony No. 5 (“Reformation”), filled with majestic themes and sweeping orchestral writing. Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E Minor is a jewel of the violin repertoire, known for its soaring melodies and virtuosic brilliance. The dynamic violinist YuEun Gemma Kim, praised for her vibrant artistry, joins as guest soloist. Also on the program is Beethoven's Overture to Fidelio. Kamil Media Awards were developed to help UC San Diego undergraduates polish their skills in film production and to help them realize their creative potential in this field. Adam was a UC San Diego, Visual Arts Media major with a passion for the power of media to connect people. To honor the memory of their son, the Kamil family established the Adam D. Kamil Media Awards. The awards consist of a grand prize of $4,000 and two finalist prizes of $2,000 each. All submissions will be viewable in the Kamil Gallery May 14-20, and in the Kamil Gallery Online. Winners will be announced at the ceremony on May 15, and the prize winning projects will be screened. “We hope that through this award, Adam’s creative spirit will inspire others to develop their talents and to grow as sympathetic and sensitive individuals,” stated Elaine Kamil.
