In the Dark: A Sensory Experience Experience an evening designed to engage the senses at In the Dark, an annual benefit hosted by the University of San Diego’s Engineering Exchange for Social Justice (ExSJ) in collaboration with Gifted Blind Artists, Crafters, & Knitters (Gifted Back). Taking place Saturday, October 10, from 5–8 p.m. at La Gran Terraza at the University of San Diego, the event celebrates the creativity and talents of the blind and low vision community through art, music, live entertainment and an immersive dining experience. Guests will discover tactile artwork created by blind and low vision artisans, hear their stories, and enjoy a three-course dinner curated by a University of San Diego chef. During dinner, guests are invited to wear an optional blindfold to engage their other senses and experience the meal through touch, taste, sound, and smell. The evening also features live entertainment, opportunities to meet featured artisans, a silent auction, and artwork available for purchase. Proceeds support ExSJ and Gifted Back programs that bring students, community partners, and members of the blind and low vision community together through accessibility-focused projects, workshops and community programs. Join us on September 20th at 2pm for a Mural Dedication and Art Walkabout at Sarah Stieber's 2026 Pop-up Art Gallery! The Point Loma Association collaborated with local San Diego Artist @SarahStieber to paint a mural in Point Loma, at the corner of Rosecrans and Upshur in La Playa. Two doors down from her mural, Stieber collaborated with local Real Estate Agent Anne Herrin and Diane Sullivan to host a pop-up art gallery. At 1021 Rosecrans Street you can meet the artist, view, and purchase paintings by Sarah Stieber. The gallery is open on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 12-4pm, and by appointment. The Point Loma Association is hosting a mural dedication party and art walkabout this Sunday, September 20th. The program starts in the art gallery at 1021 Rosecrans Street at 2pm.

Comedian Alfred Robles turned part of his stand-up shows into a space where audience members open up about their personal struggles.

The program brings together two audience favorites from Artistic Director Javier Velasco: the romantic QUE BONITO AMOR, set to a rapturous score of mariachi music, and the high-energy MAMBOMANIA, one of Velasco’s signature works. Together, the works showcase a side of San Diego Ballet that has become a hallmark of the company during its 37-year history: classical dance infused with the music, culture and energy of the region it calls home. “Día de los Muertos is a beautiful celebration of the people we’ve loved and lost, and these two ballets have always been deeply personal to me,” said Velasco. “Mambomania was inspired by my father’s love of mambo music, while Que Bonito Amor grew from memories of dancing with my mother to mariachi music. In many ways, these works have become my own altar to my parents, bringing their spirit back to me through music and dance.” QUE BONITO AMOR pairs ballet with the passion and romance of mariachi music, creating a colorful celebration of love and Mexican musical tradition. MAMBOMANIA turns up the tempo with Velasco’s exuberant choreography, blending the precision of ballet with the irresistible rhythms and energy of mambo. The performances also mark San Diego Ballet’s return to The San Diego Museum of Art following the company’s successful residency there during the Museum’s centennial season. “Experience – Día de los Muertos” is the first of three San Diego Ballet programs at the Museum during the 2026–2027 season.
