Join OMA’s Free First Sundays for Art for All! Each month, OMA welcomes friends and neighbors on Free First Sundays to join in Art for All, our fun hands-on art-making experience led by artists and cultural partners from our community. The Ilan-Lael Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating the artistic legacy of James Hubbell. Founded in 1982 by James and Anne Hubbell, the Ilan-Lael Foundation’s mission is to inspire creativity, foster a deep connection with nature, and provide a sanctuary where art and nature harmoniously coexist. Join us in partnership with Ilan-Lael Foundation and OMA staff for an air-dry clay moquette-making session where we will focus on the themes and shapes used in Hubbell’s iconic architecture, featured in the Brothers in Arts: James Hubbell and Bert Hubbell exhibition at OMA. Whether you’re new to art or have your own creative flow, Art for All is the time to let your imagination soar. Visit our current exhibitions to spark your creativity! Explore different art-making materials through creative projects at each session while learning from local and regional artists. Check back each month to see what we’re up to next! Calling youth chess enthusiasts! The 8th Annual Youth Chess Tournament will take to take place on Saturday, May 3 at the Coronado Public Library. to take place on Saturday, May 25 at the Coronado Public Library. The tournament, co-sponsored by the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Global Neighborhood Project (GNP), welcomes chess players from the ages of 8 to 18 to showcase their skills and passion for chess. Not only can youth showcase their skills and passion for chess, but they will also have an opportunity to meet Chess Grandmaster Vasif Durarbayli! The GNP is a nonprofit organization that partners with neighborhoods around the world to connect people and cultures. There is no charge to players who want to participate in the event. The free event will run from 12. to 4:30 p.m. Interested participants can register online through the Coronado Public Library’s website at cplevents.org.
