Award-winning Ovation Theatre proudly presents "Hadestown" opening August 7th in San Marcos. This intriguing and beautiful folk opera delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience. Following two intertwining love stories — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of immortal King Hades and lady Persephone — "Hadestown" invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz, Anaïs Mitchell’s beguiling sung-through musical pits industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Content and Duration: Ovation Theatre's production of "Hadestown" is the Teen Edition adapted specifically for teen actors and family audiences. Viewers should note that this production features some mature, emotional themes (poverty, grief, and authoritarian control) as well as specific sensory effects, including strobe-like lighting, loud sound effects, and haze. The show has a run time of 2 hours and 30 minutes including one intermission and is generally recommended for audiences age 10 and up. Parking Information: Parking is free for all Ovation Theatre audiences with no permit required. We recommend parking in Lots 1 & 2, at the main entrance of Palomar College. For people with accessibility needs, there are handicap parking spaces close to the theatre as well as a roundabout where people can be dropped off just outside the lobby.

In celebration of the band's hometown show on September 12, there will be a special Pierce the Veil Pop-Up Experience in the historic Candy Factory in Gallagher Square, featuring interactive activities, photo opportunities and exclusive concert merchandise available for purchase. Exhibition to highlight endangered amphibians and other endemic Mexican species. Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego is excited to announce "The Axolotl’s Garden/El Jardín del Ajolote," an expansion of the popular "Imagine Wild" exhibition, will open this fall. "The Axolotl’s Garden" invites guests to discover the world of the endangered Axolotl, from the mythology and folklore that surrounds them, to the challenges they face in a changing world. Beyond Axolotls, the new exhibition will also showcase other unique Mexican species, inviting guests to explore each animal’s tale of survival and adaptation. "The Axolotl’s Garden," created in collaboration with acclaimed Mexican-American artist Itzel Islas, is more than an exhibition — it will transform Birch Aquarium into a living story-world inspired by the ecological and cultural richness of Mexico and Baja California. Guests will explore themes of biodiversity, climate resilience, habitat loss, migration, transformation and care through unforgettable encounters with animals, contemporary art and conservation science.
