Though Fortaleza Tequila itself was established in 2005, the founding family has more than 140 years of history engrained in the origins of tequila. Great-great-granddaughter Don Cenobio was the first person to export tequila to the U.S. in the late 1800s, as well as a pioneer of the steam cooking method and usage of blue agave over other varieties. On this foundation built by the forward-thinking pioneers of the industry, Fortaleza Tequila now focuses on the past, using artisanal methods, old-world equipment and a slow, small-batch approach to craft authentic tequila.
