This week of Summer Camp is all about learning to weave! Does your child have an interest in fiber arts and learning to weave? This ancient craft connects all ages with its range of options, from simple to complex. In this week-long camp, kids will explore the art & craft of weaving on a variety of looms. Using the principles of STEAM while honing fine motor skills and problem-solving, kids & teens will: -Learn about different fiber properties -Make and use a variety of looms to weave on -Design patterns and explore color palettes -Explore their own styles -And actively do math with hands-on creative weaving! The ancient craft of weaving connects all ages with its range of options, from simple to complex. In this week-long camp, we’ll explore creative weaving on a lap loom, followed by warping and weaving on a rigid heddle loom. Using the principles of STEAM while honing fine motor skills and problem-solving, kids will: -Learn all about different fibers and their unique properties, -Use a variety of looms to learn the warping process, -Learn a variety of weaving techniques and best practices, -Design patterns and explore color palettes, -Explore their own styles, -Actively do math with hands-on creative weaving! This week of Summer Camp is all about fashion design! In this 1-week camp, teens will build skills and understanding so they can dive into their own fashion journey! Teens will learn how to use a dress form, how to read patterns, as well as the process of fashion sketching. They’ll explore the wide world of textiles, and during the week, each student will build their own skills binder that covers techniques like sewing seams, darts & more, that they’ll cover and learn during the course of the week. This week of Summer Camp is all about cooking with farm-to-table ingredients and a fun mix of garden & kitchen-related crafting! Is your child curious about where their food comes from? Does your child love to make crafts? This summer, open their world to exploring the bounty of local, colorful ingredients and how those foods got from the ground to our plates with local culinary arts instructors from Sticky Fingers Cooking. Did your child know that carrots can improve your eyesight, and cherries can help improve your memory? Young chefs will also learn what makes certain ingredients super healthy for the body and how delicious they can taste, while practicing basic cooking skills and techniques on their way to becoming super chefs! When kids aren’t in the kitchen, they’ll be learning to craft using fun, traditional materials with San Diego Craft Collective instructors with a variety of projects! We’ll cover a variety of traditional and modern craft mediums, incorporating creative exploration, fine motor skill practice, skill-building, and of course, FUN! We’ll keep things interesting, enjoyable and engaging by meeting each crafter where they’re at. Students will make a variety of fun projects to take home. Inspired by the children’s book series, “Wings of Fire,” kids will create their own unique designs with paper mache, fabric and more, and will explore bookmaking and creating zines. This week of Summer Camp is all about Game Making & Pinball Machine Building! Calling all makers, designers & traditional “gamers”! In this 1-week camp kids will use multiple mediums and different materials to create a variety of fun, hands-on games, including a handmade Pinball Machine! STEAM principles apply at every turn as kids learn to navigate materials to design and construct their own unique interactive games. We’ll be the guides as the campers design their hearts out. Then we’ll work together to help make their designs come to life! This camp is recommended for ages 8-14 years.
