A Nature Inspired Art Exhibition at Balboa Park’s Historic, Gallery 21 Three San Diego artists presents "Where the Sea Meets the Sky," an immersive exhibition opening June 30 at Gallery 21 in the Spanish Village Art Center, Balboa Park. This nature driven showcase invites visitors into a space where earth, water, air, and imagination flow together, celebrating the living rhythms of the earth. Featuring artwork by Elena Miller, Karen Haub, and Ira Cosmos, the exhibition brings together ceramics, paintings, and mixed media that explore the wild beauty connecting ocean depths, open sky, and the human spirit. Each artist offers a unique yet harmonious perspective on nature’s resilience, mystery, and transformative power. Join us Thursday, April 23 for the premiere "Coyote Tracks," the latest film from Executive Producer Wes Bruce, and Director Ryan Shoemaker at the Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park. About the Film "Coyote Tracks" is a genre-blurring cinematic journey where myth and reality intertwine through the eyes of a wandering Coyote. As he travels through an unfamiliar landscape, he gathers the stories of the people he encounters—transforming them into songs that reflect the spirit and memory of a community. Developed over three years as part of an immersive installation by The Curious Life, the film is rooted in a deeply collaborative process across Indiana. Featuring local artists and cultural practitioners—including jazz musicians, a limestone sculptor, and an African dance collective—each participant plays a version of themselves, contributing to what the filmmakers describe as a “verité fantasy.” At its core, "Coyote Tracks" explores how stories are created, shared, and carried forward. It serves as both a meditation on our overwhelming access to information and a reflection on the human need to find meaning within it. The film offers a poetic glimpse into the creative process—messy, beautiful, and ongoing—while honoring the ways communities preserve their histories through storytelling. An Exploration of Japanese, Indian, Latin & jazz fusion Reuniting on stage for the first time in more than two decades — and appearing together in the United States for the first time — acclaimed shakuhachi artist John Kaizan Neptune and Grammy-winning ghatam virtuoso Giridhar Udupa come together for an extraordinary evening of music. Joined by David Neptune on Takeda percussion, Christophe Ambrosino on guitar, and Spencer Hinkle on bass, the quintet explores original compositions shaped by Japanese melodies, South Indian rhythm, jazz improvisation, Latin influences, and musical traditions from around the world. Across a rare 90-minute performance, the ensemble creates a sound that is at once intimate, adventurous, and deeply immersive. Each performance unfolds as a living conversation where melody, rhythm, and spontaneity meet in the moment.
