The biggest event in classical music returns to San Diego, June 20-29. The Mainly Mozart All-Star Orchestra Festival, led by Maestro Michael Francis, is the largest gathering of concertmasters and principal players from the nation’s top orchestras, who come together in San Diego every summer to form one remarkable orchestra for a limited six-concert series. This year, the orchestra will return to two La Jolla venues where it first held performances in 2023: the UC San Diego Epstein Family Amphitheater and The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center. Featuring musicians from top U.S. orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra and more, Mainly Mozart’s All-Star Orchestra is the only orchestra of its kind in the country. Home Start, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to child abuse prevention and providing evidence-based family strengthening services, will hold its annual Blue Ribbon Gala on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. at The US Grant Hotel (326 Broadway, San Diego, CA 92101). Each year, the Blue Ribbon Gala is held in April in recognition of National Child Abuse Prevention Month. With 300 community leaders, elected officials, caring partners, and philanthropists expected to attend, this signature event raises vital funding for Home Start to serve our community’s most vulnerable children, families, and individuals. This year’s gala pays tribute to spring flowers as a testament to the growth and blossoming that comes from Home Start’s programs. Each day, Home Start staff plant seeds of hope to inspire growth for children and their families. The organization’s critical services serve and empower children, youth, and families affected by tragedies including homelessness, domestic violence, hunger, abuse and trauma. Last year, the organization served over 22,000 individuals in San Diego County. Guests will enjoy a champagne reception, delicious three-course dinner, live entertainment, and dancing to the music from local band Full Strength.
