Learn to Wet Felt with Wool! Saturday, June 20, 9 a.m. - Noon Join us in this 3-hour workshop where you’ll learn the ancient technique of wet felting, where loose wool fibers are transformed into fabric—a process used for thousands of years to create textiles such as rugs, clothing, and even yurts. Instructor Sylviane Collier will guide you step-by-step through the process, offering demonstrations and personalized support as you create your own felted “painting.” Begin by layering richly colored merino wool fibers to design your image, then use water, soap, and gentle agitation with bamboo mats to bind the fibers together. This process is simple and immersive—more wet than messy—and towels will be provided. Each participant will leave with a unique 8” x 8” felted artwork. Inspiration images will be available, or you’re welcome to bring your own. Materials fee: $10 (cash, paid to instructor at the start of class) No prior experience necessary. Ages 14+ welcome! After a successful January season opener, Songwriter Sanctuary returns Friday, February 27 with its Black History Month celebration featuring original music from Grammy award winning bassist and songwriter Kevin Cooper, The Voice season 18 contestant Cedrice, and SD Music Award winner Riston Diggs. Jeff Berkley hosts in partnership with Normal Heights United. About the Artists Kevin Cooper is a Grammy Award-winning Bass Player. His career includes recording with Major Record Labels, National television appearances, and a Broadway Show performance where he also received 4 Tony Award nominations. That show started right here in town at the San Diego Repertory Theater. In recent years Kevin had the honor of studying with Ravi Shankar in New Delhi India. He performed on Anoushka Shankar’s Grammy-nominated CD “Rise” in 2006 and on a Grammy Winning CD with Ike Turner in 2007. Kevin served as Ike’s musical director for over five years. He’s performed at legendary festivals including the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague. Kevin performs locally with a variety of bands of many different genres in hotels, resorts, churches, clubs, restaurants, casinos, concert halls and more!! This is his debut solo performance of his original compositions. Cedrice is a San Diego–born artist whose voice and presence embody transformation, mystique, and unapologetic truth. Diagnosed with alopecia areata at age ten, she learned early to define beauty beyond appearances, a reckoning that ignited the creative force behind her music. She gained national attention on NBC’s The Voice (Season 18) with a sultry, jazz-inflected performance of “Fever,” showcasing her signature blend of elegance and edge. Cedrice doesn’t perform for applause; she performs to reclaim, reveal, and remind. Her voice is velvet with grit, her presence regal yet intimate. Hailing from Pageland, South Carolina, he started his musical journey post a 9 year military career, ultimately choosing to work in San Diego where he spent the majority of his career. Julie Delpy patron of the 6th edition of the San Diego French Film Festival A special focus on women’s voices and stories from across the Francophone world marks the 6th edition. Presented by the Alliance Française San Diego, the San Diego French Film Festival returns for its sixth edition from May 3 to 7, 2026, at THE LOT La Jolla and the Carlsbad City Library. This year’s theme celebrates women’s voices and stories in francophone cinema, featuring a powerful selection of French-language films (with English subtitles) that highlight women’s perspectives and creative talent from across the French-speaking world. The Festival is honored to welcome Julie Delpy as Patron of its sixth edition. An internationally acclaimed actor, director, and screenwriter, Delpy has appeared in more than 30 films and received nominations for three César Awards and two Academy Awards. Her latest film, "Meet the Barbarians" ("Les Barbares"), which she directed and stars in, will be presented on May 4, followed by an in-person Q&A. “This year’s festival highlights the diversity, creativity, and strength of women’s voices in francophone cinema,” said Julie Ripoll, Executive Director of the Alliance Française San Diego. “We are proud to welcome internationally acclaimed filmmakers and offer San Diego audiences the opportunity to experience these powerful stories and engage directly with the artists behind them.” Distinguished guests include Adrien Frier, Consul of France in Los Angeles; music director Victor le Masne, producer Marianne Maddalena; directors Erige Sehiri, Nathan Ambrosioni, and André Nerman; actor Caroline Amiguet; and Clay Epstein, founder of Film Mode Entertainment, who will moderate discussions. The screening will be followed by a live Q&A with the filmmaker. Stories of Love and Resilience – May 5 "The One I Loved" ("Moi qui t’aimais"), directed by Diane Kurys, reflects on the life of Simone Signoret.
