An exclusive exhibition featuring 40 paintings of acclaimed Italian surrealist painter Aladino Ghioni known for his expressive use of color, layered texture, and surrealist interpretations of classical themes. At age 90, Ghioni remains one of Italy’s most respected living artists. His work has been showcased by many of the world’s leading cultural institutions, and his paintings are held in prominent museum and cathedral collections throughout Italy. In recent years, he has focused primarily on personal portraiture and commissioned works for private collectors. Ghioni’s art is permanently installed in several notable churches in Italy, including the Basilica of San Zeno in Verona, the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Assumption in Montecatini Terme, and the Duomo of San Lorenzo in Pescantina. Two San Diego middle school students won first-place in C-SPAN’s annual student documentary competition. Helena de la Houssaye and Harper Haden from Correia Middle School will receive $3,000 for their documentary exploring ties between the “No Kings" protests and the country’s founding.

Group Description Note: Though this class is offered as part of the Certificate in Memoir Writing, there is no pre-requisite to join this class. All students, members, and nonmembers are encouraged to enroll. Agents often share that what makes a memoir stand out in the marketplace is a strong author’s voice. In this workshop we will uncover the soul of the writing with fun and interactive voice techniques to make the storytelling as dynamic as possible. Students will also learn how to craft smooth transitions as well as how to enter and exit a chapter or scene. Participants will gain a better understanding how to create a seamless text that takes the reader between past memories (flashbacks) and present-day experiences and observations. We will work on bringing the theme of the piece to life so that the manuscript will resonate with universal meaning. Symbolism will also be explored as a way to deepen the writing and flesh out the theme of your book. Class structure: Except for the first class, the first hour will be lecture and the second hour will be read and critique where participants can workshop their material or class assignments. Tone of class: We strive to create a supportive, nurturing environment where participants feel encouraged to share, risk and connect to their most creative self. Celebrate Mother’s Day at the North City district in San Marcos with a flower workshop in collaboration with newly opened Necessity Coffee. Taking place on Saturday, May 9 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., moms and loved ones are invited to spend a creative morning together making a giant paper peony, a sculptural and lasting flower designed to take home. Tickets are $40 per person and include all materials, step-by-step instruction, and a craft coffee and fresh pastry from Necessity Coffee. Attendees can also snap a special moment at the floral photo booth backdrop, perfect for capturing the day with Mom. San Diego is one of America's "birdiest" counties, and we'll talk about what makes our region so special. You don't need to go far to experience this bounty, and we'll talk about how to spot and identify some familiar birds right in your own neighborhood. Along the way, we will learn about free resources like eBird, the Merlin Bird ID app, and ways to get plugged in with other local nature enthusiasts. This talk will be given in English, with English/Spanish resources available. All ages are welcome!
