  • For years, adults in North County have driven to Kearny Mesa for evening Italian classes. This fall the Italian school of San Diego is bringing them north: two in-person classes for adults in Encinitas, Friday evenings from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The beginner and intermediate sections run at the same time in two adjacent classrooms at San Dieguito United Methodist Church, a short drive from the I-5. All instructors are native Italian speakers. The session runs 13 classes, September 18 to December 18, 2026, with no class on November 27. Tuition is $468 in full, or four monthly payments of $128.70. Beginner is for adults with little or no Italian. Intermediate is for students with a foundation who want to speak with more confidence.   • Presented by the Friends of International Friendship Park, "The Traveling Tables of Amistad" will be on view in a two-week pop-up exhibit at the Museum of Us from September 6–19, 2026. Interactive, 90-minute workshops with Friends of International Friendship Park Program Director, Dan Watman, will be offered on select dates to learn more about International Friendship Park. In this workshop, participants will address symbolic or literal walls causing division in their own communities, cities, and countries. They will learn about the divisions at the border in the San Diego/Tijuana region, and then come together around the first converted table to share common themes and explore solutions. Workshops are included with Museum admission. No registration is required.   • San Diego’s Largest Rummage Sale Since 1927 New and gently-used merchandise, including jewelry, art/frames, antiques, collectibles, furniture, sporting equipment, holiday and home décor, kitchenware and small appliances, toys, electronics, books and clothing will be sold to raise money for Balboa Park and community non-profits. The Thursday Club, a group of volunteers dedicated to educational, cultural and civic community involvement and leadership for over 100 years in San Diego, has returned almost $2 million to Balboa Park and the community through club activities. Each year, half of the proceeds of the sale go to benefit a variety of programs and projects within Balboa Park, and half goes to support non-profit organizations in the San Diego community.
