Join us for a solo exhibition by artist Kate Kennedy, curated by Thumbprint Gallery and presented in the front main gallery space at Distinction Gallery, opens on Saturday, August 8, at 317 E. Grand Ave., Suite A, Escondido, CA 92025. The opening reception will take place from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. as part of the monthly Second Saturday Art Walk in downtown Escondido, a community-wide celebration of local galleries, museums, and creative spaces. The evening will feature live music, with drinks available for purchase from Last Spot Bar, located inside the Distinction Gallery arts complex. The exhibition presents a new body of figurative works by Kennedy, whose practice spans representational drawing and painting. Her vivid colors and delicate lines are a sight to behold! Since 2009, Thumbprint Gallery has built a reputation throughout Southern California for championing artwork that blends the offbeat, contemporary, and surreal. The gallery has become known for its strong curatorial voice and history of introducing emerging artists to wider audiences. Discover the magic of block printing in this 90 min introductory workshop! Led by local-artist and printmaker Kasey Leung, you'll be guided step-by-step through designing, carving, and printing your very own original block. Use it to create small art prints - perfect for gifting, sharing, or keeping for yourself. The emphasis is on process over perfection, with plenty of room to experiment and enjoy making with your hands. No experience needed and all materials are provided. You’ll leave with finished prints and your carved block to take home, so you can keep printing and making art long after the workshops ends! This program is for adults over the age of 18. Space is limited, registration is recommended. Walk-ins will be accommodated as space permits. Kasey Leung, owner of MOS Designs, is a San Diego-based artist and adventurer who transforms outdoor-inspired nostalgia into handcrafted prints and illustrations. Drawing on her experiences snowboarding, rock climbing, surfing, and everyday outdoor moments, she uses bold flowy lines and imperfect shapes to capture movement and memories outside. Gus Fink Studios and The Tipsy Crow (770 Fifth Ave.) today announced a Comic-Con collaboration naming the historic three-story Gaslamp Quarter bar the official home base of "The Kreepy Crossing," a free public art treasure hunt and live painting event on Friday, July 24, from 4 to 8 PM. Throughout the afternoon, eleven original Gus Fink paintings will be hidden across historic Gaslamp landmarks, with clues dropping every 20 minutes to a large social audience of followers — free to find, and finders keepers! Fink, creator of the Kreepy Cuddles character line carried nationally at Spencer’s, and Spirit Halloween, will paint live at an easel at The Tipsy Crow all evening before revealing a new character at 8 p.m. The reveal is followed by a giveaway of 100 free SDCC exclusive collectibles and a drawing for $500 in prizes. The event is open to everyone — no Comic-Con badge needed. To mark the partnership, The Tipsy Crow’s bar team will debut “Sid’s Night Watch” an exclusive cocktail inspired by the fan favorite Kreepy Cuddles character Sid, a onetime nightmare re-imagined as a protective guardian. The Kreepy deliciousness will be available only at The Tipsy Crow and only during Comic-Con weekend. Janine will be signing her recent book - "My Paranormal Life - San Diego's History and Hauntings." In "My Paranormal Life: San Diego’s History and Hauntings," Janine shares her deeply personal journey of growing up an intuitive, struggling to understand experiences others could not see or hear, and eventually embracing the gift she once tried to hide. Her story leads into the historic streets of Old Town San Diego. This place has played an important role in her paranormal life since childhood, along with many other historic locations in San Diego. Here, documented history and centuries of local legend meet Janine's own unexplained encounters. She will read a passage, answer questions and give a tour of the very haunted Davis-Horton House. An appearance by "Kanaka Bill," the man who built the Davis-Horton House, will be on hand to give an interesting portrayal of his life as the visionary of early San Diego development.
