The Blazing Laptops Write-a-thon is THE big annual fundraiser for San Diego Writers, Ink (SDWI). On June 22, 2025, writers will write in person at Lestat’s Hillcrest from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Writers seek pledges from sponsors to help raise money for San Diego’s favorite literary arts organization. In this class, we will draw from classical and modern art masters who worked on toned paper. You will learn how to use the tone of the paper plus white to create dynamic and expressive drawings. This course will sharpen your skills in rendering form, value, and texture. Basic composition, anatomy, and perspective will also be taught. Materials: You do not need everything on this list. Buy only the medium or supplies you want to work with. Pan Pastel: black and white, two triangle-shaped wands, one for each. Charcoal: Black or Sanguine charcoal pencils such as General’s 2B and 4B; compressed charcoal sticks or a small stick of soft vine charcoal. Ahoy, matey! The nautical-clad “Titans of Soft Rock,” Yachtley Crew, will be dropping anchor in San Diego this July to launch ArtPower’s summer season. For the uninitiated, Yacht Rock is a revival of the smooth soft rock and Top 40 hits from the late ’70s to early ’80s—now a nationwide sensation. Fans don captain’s hats and nautical attire, singing along to the era’s breezy, feel-good tunes. Yachtley Crew first made waves in 2017, selling out countless Southern California venues before igniting a nationwide Yacht Rock craze. In this workshop, students will learn the art of editing their memoir including identifying what and where to cut to streamline the plot. Students will also learn how the revising process works so that they will be able to create a product that will excel in the marketplace. Peer editing will be utilized to assist the student in completing a first rough draft of their memoir. Students will be given an overview of the publishing options available to them including special guests (top professionals in the field) that will offer the most current and compelling information about publishing/self-publishing in today’s memoir marketplace. The International California Surf Museum, celebrating 40 years in 2026 and the first and oldest surf museum in the country, invites you to attend the 17th Annual Gala. Since 1986, CSM has been collecting and preserving the surfing history and artifacts of this popular lifestyle sport and culture as well as producing fascinating exhibits and dynamic educational programs.
