SPECIAL COVERAGE: Living With Wildfires: San Diego Firestorm 10 Years Later

Lady Aztecs Head To NCAA Tournament

They won the Mountain West Conference and are heading to the NCAA basketball tournament.

They won the Mountain West Conference and are heading to the NCAA basketball tournament with a sparkling 26 - 6 record wearing the black and red of San Diego State University.

No, not the men's basketball team. It's the Lady Aztecs we're talking about.

Coach Beth Burns says her winning strategy is to keep her team focused on school and sports. And she keeps that in mind when she recruits. But her game plan for Sunday's game in Baton Rouge against Louisiana State is speed. LSU is bigger, but the Aztecs are faster.

Courtney Clements, who is the Mountain West Player of the Year, described her mindset.

"Just staying focused and locked in and not making silly mistakes, especially when your adrenaline starts pumping and you're nervous, we want to try to eliminate those mistakes and try to stay in the game."

Chelsea Hopkins is the team's co-captain.

"We're just going to do everything that we've done through the season, play Aztec basketball and here that starts with defense. We're just going to be the aggressor, we're going to play our game, which is very uptempo and very fast and try to get LSU on their heels," she said.

The game airs at 4:45 on ESPN2 on Sunday.
