Italian trio ushers in the holiday season with a new concert special filmed at the Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater. Il Volo — Piero Barone (20), Ignazio Boschetto (19) and Gianluca Ginoble (18) — received raves for their vocal talent and showmanship displayed in their first two PBS specials, "Il Volo Takes Flight" and "Il Volo We Are Love." Now the group takes on Christmas classics, performing before an enthusiastic audience amidst Santa hats, decorated Christmas trees and beautifully wrapped presents. "Il Volo Buon Natale" is part of special programming premiering on PBS stations beginning November 30, 2013.
Having featured Italian classics and contemporary pop music in their first two television specials, the group now focuses on Christmas classics. The concert begins with the moving hymn “Panis Angelicus” and then explodes with “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” as the curtain rises.
Performing with the Miami Symphony Orchestra, conductor Kevin Stites and a five-piece band, Il Volo continues with Christmas standards such as “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” “The Christmas Song,” “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” “O Holy Night,” and a holiday medley that includes “Jingle Bell Rock,” “Let It Snow” and “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.”
Favorites like “Ave Maria” and “Silent Night” showcase their vocal talents, and an a cappella rendition of “Blue Christmas” displays their interpretive gift for music. Joining Il Volo for the final song is Belinda, the Spanish-born Mexican singer-songwriter and actress who has sold more than two million albums in the U.S. and 16 million albums worldwide. Together, the “Princess of Latin Pop” and Il Volo bring the house down with the popular international Christmas song, “Feliz Navidad,” written by singer-songwriter Jose Feliciano.
"Il Volo Buon Natale" is produced by Richard Jay-Alexander, whose extensive credits include concerts for international stars Barbra Streisand, Bernadette Peters and Bette Midler, and directed by Scott Lochmus. Music is produced by eight-time Grammy-winning producer Humberto Gatica (Josh Groban, Celine Dion, Michael Buble and Andrea Bocceli) and world-renowned Italian singer-producer Tony Renis. The producer for the program is Josette Marano and executive producers are Michele Torpedine, Jordan Leber Steve Leber, Richard Jay-Alexander and Jamie Westrick.
"Il Volo Buon Natale" features these performances: “Panis Angelicus”; “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”; “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”; Christmas Medley (“Jingle Bell Rock,” “Let It Snow,” “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”); “The Christmas Song”; “Ave Maria”; “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town”; “O Holy Night”; “Silent Night”; “Blue Christmas”; “Notte Stellata” (The Swan); “White Christmas”; “Mis Deseos” / “Feliz Navidad” (duet with Belinda).
