Bail Set At $50,000 For 1 Of 2 Teens Arrested On Arson-Related Charges

Bail has been set at $50,000 for one of the teens suspected of starting at least two fires near the south Escondido area, according to the San Diego County District Attorney's Office.

Isaiah David Silva and a 17-year-old were arrested Thursday night after a citizen spotted the pair allegedly starting a small brush fire near South Escondido Boulevard, the Escondido police said in a press release. The fire was quickly put out by a citizen.

Silva, 19, is being held at the Vista Detention Facility on $50,000 bail. An arraignment has been scheduled for May 20. No hearing currently has been scheduled for the juvenile who was arrested.

According to a press release from the Escondido Police Department:

The citizen was able to put out the small fire and contacted law enforcement. At about 7:25 p.m., a citizen who was in the area of Westfield Mall, contacted Escondido Police and report he was chasing two persons who he had witnessed attempting to start a fire in the area of Kit Carson Park. The description of the suspects in both cases were similar.

Escondido police said officers located two people matching the descriptions near Westfield Mall and after questioning, took both suspects into custody on arson-related charges.

The police department said the investigation is ongoing.
