A Sheriff's deputy stands next to a sketch of a man believed to have tried to abduct a girl in Solana Beach, March 25, 2015.

Authorities asked the public Wednesday to look closely at a composite sketch of a man who tried to lure a 7-year-old girl into his SUV in front of a Solana Beach elementary school.

The man approached the child at the campus of Skyline Elementary at 606 Lomas Santa Fe Drive shortly before 3:30 p.m. Monday and told her to get into his vehicle, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. She refused, and he drove off.

Witnesses said the would-be abductor was tanned and roughly 6 feet tall, with light brown hair. He appeared to be white and in his 40s, and was driving a silver-and-black late-model mid-size SUV, possibly a Ford Flex, sheriff's Sgt. Joe Montion said.

Deputies searched the area for the man through the late afternoon but turned up nothing.

Anyone who believes they recognize the man depicted in the sketch is asked to call sheriff's Detective Frank Feliccia at (760) 966-3517.

Tipsters who wish to remain anonymous may also call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
