San Diego Rents Among Highest In Country
California placed four cities in the top 10 list for residential rental rates.

California placed four cities in the top 10 list for residential rental rates.

The Apartmentlist.com survey ranked San Diego ninth nationally with an average rent of $1,800 per month for a two-bedroom apartment.

"Across these big four metro areas, the demand has just outstripped supply and that's really surging prices," said Max Rosett of Apartmentlist.com. "Home prices are so expensive that even renters who make a tremendous amount of money, and anywhere else around the country would be able to afford a home, are not able to purchase a home. And what that means is that rents essentially have a much higher ceiling."

San Diego's rents climbed nearly three-and-a-half percent over prices from a year ago.

San Francisco has the highest average rent in the nation. A typical two-bedroom apartment there goes for about $4,500 a month. Los Angeles and San Jose also made the top 10.
