State officials are trying to find an appropriate home in San Diego County for a sexually violent predator when he is released from a state hospital. KPBS Reporter Amita Sharma has details.

Douglas Badger was supposed to be released from Atascadero State Hospital a year ago. The plan was for Badger to live in a halfway house in San Diego's college area. But the idea was scrapped after residents expressed concern.

Now, an agency that contracts with the state has told a judge that officials are looking for a residence for Badger that accommodates his clinical needs as well. One option that's been mentioned is a trailer next to the RJ Donavan State Prison in Otay Mesa.

Officials from the agency said they plan to discuss other residential options for Badger with local politicians.

Prosecutors say they intend to make sure the public will have a say before a home is found for Badger who was imprisoned after several sexual assaults against male hitchikers.
