San Diego is getting a public relation's boost from two major sporting events hosted here this weekend. KPBS Reporter Erik Anderson has details.
The NCAA basketball tournament has helped draw some national attention to San Diego. The city is hosting first and second round games at San Diego State University through the weekend. On Saturday and Monday, a world wide television audience is expected to tune into the World Baseball Classic at Petco Park. Convention and Visitor's bureau spokesman Sal Giametta says both events help them market the region.
Giametta: "San Diego's already known as a tourist destination. We're fairly well known as a convention destination. So the other areas that we look to are areas like special events, where the more of them we bring, the greater the benefits (the community appreciates)."
Giametta says the events are also drawing tourists into town and they're spending money at local establishments.
