There were more student arrests today as protests over an immigration reform bill continued in San Diego for a fourth straight day. School district officials say they don't think there will be large-scale protests tomorrow during Caesar Chavez Day but are prepared nonetheless. KPBS Reporter Amita Sharma has details.
Dozens of students left their classes and assembled on campus at Memorial Academy. Some threatened to walk off the junior high school grounds. Police were sent to the campus to watch over the crowd. And at Chicano Park in Barrio Logan, officers from San Diego city schools arrested more than 30 students on suspicion of loitering. District spokeswoman Music McCall said many of those arrested were not from San Diego schools.
McCall: At the district, we're seeing that students are remaining in class. We're not having the walkouts that characterized Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. So if there are students that are going to these rallies. They're not coming to school first and then leaving.
Student protests have flared up in seven other cities in the county prompting school closures until Monday. Amita Sharma, KPBS News.
