San Diego City attorney Mike Aguirre says he will ask the County Grand Jury to expand its investigation into the city's use of water and wastewater enterprise funds to pay for the ongoing investigation by Kroll Incorporated.

Aguirre has consistently attacked the Kroll consultants for their multi-million dollar fees to investigate the city. He says allocating a share of those bills to the city's water department is inappropriate.

Aguirre: "Every dollar that goes to Kroll is a dollar that goes away from water and waste water and maintaining those systems, and it's not appropriate in my view, to charge the victims of the alleged wrongdoing for the cost of the investigation."

The Kroll consultants have billed the city around $16 million so far to complete an investigation into the pension deficit. The city council has proposed spreading about a third of that cost to various city departments that are affected by the investigation.
