Millionaire Republican Eric Roach says he is shutting down his campaign for the 50th congressional district seat. KPBS Reporter Erik Anderson has details.
The Rancho Santa Fe resident says he's hoping his decision will ensure a Republican victory in the district. Roach spokesman Stan Devereaux says there will be no media campaign and no public appearances in advance of the June sixth election.
Devereaux: "Eric Roach is standing down his campaign for the June sixth republican primary. That means he will not be campaigning aggressively to win the primary. His name will still appear on the ballot and it's up to individual voters how they vote."
Republican Brian Bilbray is facing off against Democrat Francine Busby in two races in June. One fills the 50th district seat for the rest of the year. The other is a primary for the next term which begins in January. The seat is open because former Congressman Randy Cunningham is serving a federal prison term for accepting bribes from defense contractors.
